The Skagit-Mount Vernon Kiwanis Elvin Haley Music Fund:

Our Kiwanis Club has honored long time Mount Vernon School District music teacher and club member Elvin Haley by setting up a fund in his name to provide free musical instrument rentals for students in need.

This program is beginning it's second year and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  Another example of Kiwanis dollars being put to good use...

The Skagit-Mount Vernon Kiwanis Ervin Lindall Bicycle Repair and Donation Program:

In the 1997, Ervin Lindall took the lead role in developing and maintaining one of our clubs most successful donation programs.  Ervin, or "Erv" to most people that know him, stores bike repair equipment, picks up and stores bicycles and needed parts, plans the work parties and the eventual donation of the bikes to children in need.

To date this program has given out over 710 bicycles to our community since this program started in the early 1990's.  Another component of this program is bicycle safety.  Erv ensures that a helmet goes with all donated  bicycles and he has facilitated numerous bike rodeos designed to conduct safety inspections, bicycle registration and set up safety courses for the youth that attend. In December 2004, this program was responsible for giving out 49 bicycles to children just in time for Christmas.

On September 29, 2005, at our annual Kiwanis installation banquet, the bicycle repair and donation program was named after Erv Lindall.  This honor was due to Erv's dedication, hard work and commitment to the program and youth that are served.
